fashion, it's in your closet

"Fashion, it's in your closet" is a video featuring a variety of friends and their personal accounts on fashion, daily wear, personal style & what's hot. Not saying we are experts in fashion, but like, we don't need to be. Because fashion isn't just for models and Lady Gaga, it's for anyone that gets dressed in the morning.

If you'd like to learn more about my featured friends, here are a few links.

Josh, trendy
Rebecca, dikey
Gibron, 80's preppy
Sara, not too gross
Zach, no heels allowed
Rob, Rhode Island summer wear

Fancy French Cologne

I have been waiting and waiting for Fancy French Cologne to come out with their online shopping site, and they have!
Luckily I got a sneek preview and wanted to share with you the adorable items coming soon to FancyFrenchCologne.com

Why am I suddenly interested in online shopping again, you ask?
Haven't I always just looked at F21 and OU online, but really only shopped at American Apparel because I work there? Wrong.
Fancy French Cologne is owned by two SF girlies that were in a bitchin' band, Finest Dearest.
When I heard they were coming out with a clothing line, I was like "THESE GIRLS RULE!"

Let me give you a peep of what I already have saved in my Wishlist

Photobucket

The Salt + Pepper Blazer has super cute details, nice urban looking sleeves, but it totally still tailored-
hence urban chic!

Photobucket

A Sweater Blazer, why haven't I seen this before? Two staple items in my closet combined in one item!
No more pairing cardigans under Blazers to get the comfort and the structure. This is all-in-one! Gah, love!

Photobucket

Dark Olive Messenger Bag- aren't we always looking for the perfect bag?
But wait- this one is made of 100% man made materials. Even better!

Photobucket

And now, if I were to dress in all black (God forbid!)
I could still have a floral element with this adorable Ashley Clutch.
You know I don't go anywhere without some floral, pastel or grandma-esque item. Problem solved.

So at this point you're all like, "uhh... Erin, why haven't you mentioned anything about the girl in these pictures?"
Silly me! My sister, Nicole is one of the models on the website. Isn't she cute?

Anyyyway
you can meet us both at Fancy French Cologne's Launch Party on September 23rd.
RSVP on Facebook! Oh and while you're on Facebook, don't forget to "like" Fresh Influence.

Miss you guys, more soon!

Daddy district

Father's Day! A great excuse to dress nice for daddy, eat good food and have some nice family time. My dad and I met my sister in the Mission for breakfast, where we ate at Boogaloos. I had the nommy French Toast.
It just so happens that Valencia and 24th were shut off to traffic for Sunday Streets. Portions of the city are closed off on Sundays where you can freely roam, bike, skate, dance, whatever!
It was a cool opportunity to walk down the street and watch the crazy bicycle inventions wheel by. Also spotted a lot of cute pups, my family is partial to the Frenchies :)

Here are a few shots of the festivities:

Wicked!

Photobucket
Thrifted lace, pants, shoes, satchel; AA tights; f21 earrings; Nars lip colour

This is the ultimate thrift outfit. That sounds so snobby and dumb but these pieces are a few of my favorite thrift finds.
I found the long sleeve lace tee at Thriftown on Mission Street.
The high-waisted pants were a treasure from Wasteland. As were the flats (gift from my sister).

I really love this outfit, as "outdated" and "90's mommy" it may be.
It is more important to feel great and love what you're wearing than dress to impress your society and/or peers. That's the beauty behind fashion. You are out to impress yourself. I am constantly challenging myself to create looks that inspired me.

Photobucket

I bought tickets to see Wicked with my ma for Mother's Day. We celebrated rather late but with finals and whatnot, the timing was perfect. My mother and I made a real trip out of it. We rummaged through her closet and picked this nice ensemble for her to wear. She doesn't go "out on the town" very often so we got quite giddy putting outfits together.

When I look at this picture, I see that my mother has really influenced my personal style. Penny loafers, linen pants, button-up shirts, the floral fabric she uses for quilting.. her taste is reflected in my style. I used to hate to admit that she influenced me, but now I am happy to say it! My mom is one of my best friends! She is cute and dainty and the most patient and valuable shopping buddy.

Go thank your mom for her fashion advice! Whether she used to your buy clothes for you (boys), or lay out your outfits every day (girls), she helped you become the confident fashion-oriented person you are today!

Oh! If you haven't seen Wicked already, go see it at the Orpheum Theater in SF before it is too late- you won't regret it!

19th and Valencia

I ran away yesterday.
I packed my bags, drove to the next town, left my car in a parking lot, walked to the train, took the train to Bart and ran away to the city.

Photobucket

When I got into the mission, I met with some friends and we shopped. A lot. Did some REAL thrifting for once in a very long time. Thrifting in the city is a lot more successful than thrifting in the suburbs, you just have to be patient.

Later that night, a very special person offered me shelter for the night. She and her trendy friend had identical urban outfitter boots. Urban Outfitters is taking over the world... I haven't decided if that's a good thing yet.

Photobucket

Don't worry darlings, I'm home safe now :)

My best find that day ($6.75):

Photobucket

These shoes got me even more excited for New Year's. I think I'm going to be super 1999 and dress in all purple or something. Go really over the top. Have you seen American Apparel's new promo on New Year's like it's 1999? There are some really cute ideas on the site. Why don't more people dress up for this holiday?- it's a great way to start the New Year.
I think couples should dress to match. Girls should be in sequins and boys in bow-ties and everyone needs someone to kiss at midnight. Sorry if this philosophy depresses you single ladies, but maybe it will inspire you to dress to impress and make it that much easier to find a cutie when the clock strikes twelve.
He doesn't have to be your boyfriend, or even a friend. Truth is- everyone wants a New Year's kiss. If you see a cute boy alone and only 10 seconds remain until 2010- consider him fair game. You both want it.
New rule in the book of girl rules: if you aren't with your boyfriend on New Year's, it's all right if he gives someone else a kiss. Agree, ladies? And what do you think fellas? It's just a kiss :D

Went out to dinner with some co-workers and friends for Jesse's birthday! He's the one in the Lady Gaga crown- duh.
Jesse helped me realize I need some fur in my life, so I'm on the prowl for a fur cap or coat.
Love my velvet dress for the holiday season. Can't wait to have my dinner parties.
I need to start thinking about a New Years dress, my favorite!

We went to dinner at this place called Coda on Mission in San Francisco.
There's a live jazz band and one crazy woman dancing. So fun.

I had mixed greens in balsamic dressing ($6.oo)
Potato bud seared scallops in a cauliflower puree ($11.oo)
Fried sweet potatoes ($4.75)

Birthday boy in his birthday suit with some fashionistas. Aren't they cute!
I love the buckled bootie heels, zipper bustier and textured tights.
And I see not one, but two old-fashioned key necklaces.

Like I said before guys, my cameras got stolen!
Instead of letting my blog suffer from this great tragedy, I must result to photobooth photos for a few weeks.
I still haven't decided on which digital camera I will replace my stolen ones with.
I wore this to see my friend's band play on Mission Street in San Francisco.
The band is sooo good, really pop-punk and super fun! Check out Heartsounds!
These photos were taken after I got home- you can see what the precipitation did to my hair :)
I love Gap's new advertisements for denim on denim. It's all coming back.

All for now,

Frills and squirrels and everything in between

target top, old navy thrifted denim, wet seal sandals, thrifted necklaces, charlotte russe oversized ring, beatrice the cat

Another day taking care of the cats.
This house in San Francisco is magical. We discover something new about it each time we visit. This time we found an empty apartment on the top level with roof access- voila! I still can't over this beautiful weather- a tanktop above the trees in SF! Amazing.

After this, my friends and I took a trip to Berkley to see Paul Baribeau play at Gilman. It was a fun show with two one-girl-bands playing prior to Baribeau. The first girl was Try the Pie. Her voice sounded a lot of like Laura Veirs. Loved her, she was so beautiful and sweet, I wish I had took a photo or video, but I was captured by her sound. The second girl was The Boy Who Could Fly was so adorable and from Ohio. She told short stories between songs, it must be interesting living in Ohio with all the squirrels.

And here is Paul Baribeau performing "Christmas Lights." I recorded this for anyone who could not go.
Sorry it's sideways, I always forget that I can't rotate videos- duh.

PS- Don't forget to feed my new fishes :D

Short shorts forever

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
forever 21 top, american apparel high waisted shorts, thrifted belt, thrifted shoes

It was soo hot this week, I had to cool off in my new favorite shorts. I would wear these every day for the rest of my life if I could.
Went with a friend to take care of some woman's cats while she is away. Her house is beauuuutiful in Pacific Heights. We felt the essence of high-class city living for the hour or so we took care of the cats.

Kind of funny and messed up at the same time..
The city was 80 degrees- can you believe that? Makes me wonder if I would like living in Los Angeles.

Like the new banner? I do. It came from this day of photographs (obviously). Flannel is so fun.

My sister's boyfriend's friends from Detroit were visiting SF and my sister and I had the pleasure of giving them the grand tour.
It was a crazy day, we went from Pier 39 to the Palace of Fine Arts to Ocean Beach to crepes. If anyone hasn't made the trip to California's Bay Area, plan to make it as soon as possible. This is really one of the world's most beautiful cities. Anyway, here are some fun photos from the day:

City by the bay

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

More about that in between winter and spring stuff. It's so cold some days, other days I wish I were wearing shorts (kind of). A month from now I will be visiting my friends in Arizona and bearing my winter legs, better there than here.
My boyfriend is my apparent new photographer. The first photo was taken at Ocean Beach in SF. It was beautiful outside and terribly romantic. The second is a picture of me posing at Twin Peaks. He wanted to show me where he had biked and when we DROVE to the top I was quite proud of him. It was lovely, you could see all the way across the bay to Oakland and even Marin I believe. I'm a weak geography student.

I know, I know, this is not a reaction to culture, fashion OR the arts. Tell me if I'm getting too personal for you. But this day was too beautiful not to share. San Francisco is really one of the most amazing cities in the world. I may not be experienced enough to make that judgement, sorry. But I have lived here my whole life and I am continuing to discover new corners of the city. You all MUST visit!
Anyway, about my outfit. I just love the mustard/faded red color combination, don't you? :D

On the city streets

A few weeks ago I was in SF with my family. It was the first warm day of the season, but I was still wearing an overcoat because I get cold easily. Anyway, I snapped this quick photo because I loved the fact these girls were bearing skin in January. Sorry it's so small, I had to do a serious crop job.
I prefer the girl on the left's outfit. I'm always partial to blondes, but her dress is a cute pattern and the slits on the sleeves are fun. Plus, adding the boots give they winter vibe. The cut-offs on the right with the airy, white top is just a little bit too early in the season. Optimistic, though.
The point of this post really goes beyond what they are wearing. You may notice the girl on the left's body is a little bit more filled out than summer girl. So many women and girls think they have to be stick skinny in order to look good or be accepted. I hope they know this is not true. A woman's body is a beautiful blessing in every shape. If you ask me, I think the girl with some booty looks just as good as the thinner one, maybe even better. That could be my childhood insecurities talking, as a child and young adult I was always freakishly skinny, I've always had chicken legs and some sort of upside-down pear shape. So don't listen to me, they are both beautifully shaped women. And they must know it, look at the confidence they have in dressing themselves.

sf weekend #2

Cleaning out my closet this week was the best inspiration to go... SHOPPING! Today my sister and I showed my mother our favorite shopping spots. First, we went to the Haight where we hit many of our regulars. At Buffalo Exchange I bought a maroon long sleeve henley, a scarlet orange silky dress and a white blouse that needs some repairing, hence, worth the entire 4 dollars I bought it with. Next, we headed to Union Square Downtown SF and made stops in H&M, F21, Levi's, and Aldo. I picked out my birthday present: a pair of light brown shin-high boots with two side tassles (I was inspired from the day before). I also got some cute rose shaped earrings at Forever 21.

OUTFIT:
tee: custom screened AA tee -gift from sister
white tank under: old navy
thermal footed tights: old navy
leg warmers: f21
black jacket: thrifted
lumberjack gray beanie: gift
navy boots: vintage thrifted
green scarf: gift
navy corduroy mini shorts: AA

I never really know what to wear on shopping days. Everything I end up wearing seems to be annoying to take off and put back on. Layers always seems the best way to go so I don't have to take off all my bottoms or all my tops. Basics underneath a cute outfit always works. Tank top and leggings under, half the time I barely had to get undresses.

ps still kind embarassed

sf weekend #1

A day at the newly renovated Academy of Science Museum in San Francisco called for no more than a warm outfit to pull me through two hours of waiting in line in the freezing (although clear) weather. My sister, my mom and I are spending a weekend in San Francisco as a family acting as tourists. Nicole and I discovered something we now call "BikeWatch" as she rates hot dads racing by on their "fixies" and me scoffing every time. I did more of a clothes watch and stared at urban wear such as the new trends of shin-high boots (my favorite spotted were chestnut leather with tassels on each out side, I should have snapped a photo) We also played the ABC game naming bands, then movies, and eventually moving on to high difficulty naming TV shows. Guaranteed good time.

OUTFIT
blouse: target (just bought on sale $5)
navy teared jacket: target
black overcoat: old navy
black jeans: levi's
navy boots: vintage, thrifted
belt: thrifted
black fox scarf: urban

I must admit this outfit (as do most of the rest of my clothes) are acquired through my sister's hand-me-downs. I require myself to wear new clothes immediately to prove myself they are wearable. Plus, for some reason, I always believe clothes that I acquire along the same time period always seem to go together best. The tricky thing is to find other ways to wear new clothes with old clothes, don't you think?
Well, this blog- still has lots of room for improvement, habit and routine. Give me time. I learned in my journalism class that you should start posting your material on the internet even when you are still embarrassed by it and continuously improve it. Here goes.
